Viewing a thread - Lowboy/Detachable Trailer Questions?

Anamoose, NDI was curious about how these trailers work as far as the detach. Do you have to have hydraulics on the truck or can you get ones that are air oparated? If you didn't have the wet kit on the truck could you use a gas engine and hydraulic pump to work it? It looks like these trailers would work good for hauling four wheel drive tractors and combines.

Sac & Story county IAI use a 12 volt starter motor hydraulic pump. It doesn't work too good but get by. Gas engine is probably most popular. PTO pump is OK, too. It doesn't take much. Maybe, 3 gpm at psi.
Sort of depends if you want it versatile so you can use any tractor or make it hard for people to borrow it from you.

Byron ILThere are a lot of lowboys with the mechanical detach. A friend of mine has one for sale if you're looking for one now. He is in Rockford IL. You can me if you want his #. [ protected] I know his trailer is only a couple of years old and hasn't seen much use. That's why he's selling it.PTO is faster, Self contained (Pony Motor ) works good. I was told that the mechanical Detatches worked good but were not made for alot of use, more of a long haul application not local work like farming. They are cheaper (mechanical ). I have a neghbor that uses the Hydraulics on his JD to work his.

Somerville, Indianayep, mech detach is light but not handy. Hyd is handy but heavier and more expensive. A hyd non ground bearing Trail King is about as expensive equipment trailer to buy but lasts a long time. Air suspension is not a negative issue at all. Ground bearing is not good unless it is kept on farm use.

we use our wet kits to power the trailers, since , would find it hard to change to another system. Ours had a 12V starter pump on it before I bought it, had them take it off before we brought it home.
