The edge banding is the thin material that covers the front face of the cabinets utilizing frameless construction. Typically we will use edge banding that is made from the same material as the exterior of your cabinets. (i.e. If your cabinets are a walnut veneer, we will use edge banding made from real walnut to match.) Wood edge banding is made from real wood and can be stained, clear coated, or painted to blend nicely with any component of the cabinet. Every type of wood that you can have your cabinets made out of applies to our real wood edge tape selection as well.

NOTE: PVC is a vinyl banding which is available in many solid colors and wood grain patterns. Wood banding is the most common type used in kitchen cabinets but the PVC banding is more durable and can be used in commercial and other room applications of cabinetry.

Edge Banding Size/Thickness Standards:

• Cabinet edges get 0.5 mm (1/32 in) thick edge banding standard
• #125 Doors get 1.5 mm (3/32 in) thick edge banding standard *whenever available. If not, then 0.5 mm (1/32 in) thick edge banding.
• For refrigerator and appliance openings that are always exposed, we will use hardwood that is 5 mm thick (on the exposed edges only)
• Bookshelves, appliance cabinet floors, and some cabinet edges that require extra protection and durability will have hardwood attached in our shop (whenever possible with respect to shipping constraints) at a standard thickness of 13/16"
• Extra thick 3 mm PVC edge taping is available for extra durability (great for cabinets in garages, mudrooms, utility rooms, shops, etc.)
