Starting in Chesapeake & Ohio rebuilt their Hudsons to achieve a heathier increase in horsepower.

The result were larger and heavier locomotives in a new Class L-1, L-2, and L-3.

The L-1s, numbered 490-494 shone in stainless steel and bright orange as for a short time, this was to become

the "Chessie." Our Lionel Vision Line Hudson beomes the 'Chessie" cab 490 also for a short time in !

We 'borrowed' the NYC's PT Tender so that we can show off the water scoop effects and sounds!

Pricing of this "Limited Edition" Hudson Lionel Item is at $1,899.95.  They have all the same features the cataloged version have, in addition to the water scoop and sound effects.

In , BALDWIN built twenty 2-8-8-2 H-7 locomotives designated for the Chesapeake & Ohio . Known as 'Simple Simons" because they operated as simple-expansion articulateds.

The H-7s, numbered -, went right into active duty service and lasted until the late s pulling huge 9,500-ton coal drags.

In Baldwin phoned the C&O to say they had found enough parts to build one more

H-7! By then the railroad was running H-8 Alleghenys, M-1 steam turbines, Pacifics, Hudsons, the Greenbriars, and Berkshires. But Baldwin gave the C&O a deal they could not refuse and approved the order. The H-7 number was delivered under primer so that C&O could use up the Orange paint they had left over after painting the three M-1 Turbines!

LIONEL VISION LINE TRIPLEX...2-8-8-8-2 DEALER EXCLUSIVE!!!

Since I am a few miles from Roanoke, VA, I keep hearing the 'Old Timers' story of the forgotten N&W Triplex:

In , the merger of the N&W and VGN railroads brought an inspection tour of the VGN facvilities by then N&W President Stuart T. Saunders and his foremen.

He gasped at what he saw; the old s VGN Triplex 700, in sad condition, but intact deep in their backshop! Since the N&W prided themselves by building their own steam engines, like the J Class, A Class, and the Y6s, Saunders ordered the 700 rebuilt for one last year of steam operations!

In Herman H Pevler came from the Wabash railroad to become the next president of the N&W. He saw the Triplex mothballed in an quipment shed!

Pevler imediately ordered a repaint to blue, which became the paint color on may N&W diesels of the s and s. This color is now referred to as 'Pevler' blue.

Pelver retired in . Unfortunately, none of the 'Old Timers" know whatever happened to the triplex, or can finish the story!

DEALER EXCLUSIVE KATY CHALLENGER 30-TBA

In , ALCO built thirty-one 4-6-6-4 Challenger locomotives for Union Pacific However, The U.S. War Production Board diverted six locomotives after completion to the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad. Locomotives - were later sold to Clinchfield Railroad in and were renumbered as 670-675 .These six Challengers were eventually retired in .

The Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad(MKT) put in a bid for one of these Challengers to pull

their Texas Special passenger train. The Katy's, as is affectionately known, request was denied.

The streamlined Texas Special cars were bright red with shining corrugated aluminum side panels.

On August 12, the Union Pacific Corporation, purchased the Katy with approval from the Interstate Commerce Commission. The MKT/Katy Heritage color scheme appears on the UP SD70ace cab .

What if...?

Silver painted wheels with polished nickel plated rims and drive rods adorn our model.

Silver painted tender truck side frames and trailing trucks complement.

Locomotive and tender are the same red as on the UP Katy Heritage SD70ace.

The maroon tender striping and sand domes carry over.
