Industrial wire screens. What the difference between wire mesh, wire cloth, wire fabric and wire net?

Industrial wire screen is a wire hardware with a flat surface which has both retaining and throughput properties. In a broad sense, a screen - surface provided with openings (apertures, spaces) of specific form size and shape.

In depending on the design, construction, method of manufacturing, usage, practice of utilizing of industrial and business languages all over the world – wire screens widely called as wire cloth, wire mesh, wire fabric and wire net. Terms "Wire mesh", "wire mesh screen", "wire cloth", "wire fabric" are used interchangeably for woven wire screen. To prevent misinterpretations in the current field the professionals are to use official terminology given by International Standard ISO “Industrial screens and screening — Vocabulary”.

Wire screens - wire mesh and wire cloth – are widely used in different fields and in many industrial sectors:

Wire cloth and wire mesh, as main types of wire screens are devices for carrying out the process of screening. Screening is an industrial process of separation of solid particulate material according to particle size by causing part to remain on a screening surface provided with apertures through which the remainder passes.   • separated particles - discrete elements of the material to be screened regardless of its size;
  • agglomerates - several particles adhering together.

  • bone dry - material having no surface moisture.
• DENSITY:
  • bulk density - the mass in air per unit volume of bulk particulate material (including the voids within and between particles);
  • relative density - ratio of the mass in air of a solid particle of a given volume to the mass of an equal volume of water;
  • per cent solids - ratio of dry solids to the total solid-liquid mixture of material, expressed as a percentage by mass.

  • angle of repose - angle to the horizontal which a material will assume naturally when in a stationary pile (of earthwork and excavation process);​
